Hi, I'm Justin. I am a web developer looking for freelance and contract work in Perth, Western Australia.

I have been working with PHP for 10 years, and more recently with Ruby (and Rails) for 4 years. I love the web, and I love writing beautiful, elegant code.

• PHP Development including experience with Expression Engine, Cake PHP and WordPress.
• Ruby Development using frameworks including Ruby on Rails, Merb and Sinatra. Also have experience using BrowserCMS, Radiant & Refinery CMS.
• Unobtrusive Javascript Development using jQuery and Prototype.
• Semantic, standards compliant XHTML/CSS coding.
• I am a capable System Administrator, having used some flavor of *nix on my work machine for many years, as well as hosting several clients websites.
• I am familiar with version control systems including CVS, Subversion and git.
• I have solid verbal and written communication skills and am well versed in explaining technical details to people who are not so technically minded.

Experience

I have been working as a freelance web developer for 10 years, 4 of those full time after a 1 year stint at a web development studio. During this time I've had to perform many tasks, including:

• Consulting with clients to find the best solutions for their requirements; Scoping and estimating jobs; Writing functional specifications.
• Developing websites using the right tool for the job, both for individuals, businesses and not for profits.
• Providing technical advice and alternate solutions for problems my clients have.

Recognition

In 2009, I was a finalist at the Australian Web Awards for my work on Havilah Legal.

Open Source Contributions

I have contributed to several open source efforts, including the Merb core framework and maintaining a PEAR library for PHP.

About Me

When I'm not coding, I also enjoy video games, cars, electronics, remote control helicopters and getting outdoors. My favourite beer is Corona.
